newbie here

hi am new to astronomy and just got my first telescope yesterday, got myself a celestron c6n reflector, is this a good starter scope? a bit dissapointed as the weather was soo poor last night and didnt get a chance to get a look and looks as though tonight is going to be the same, anyone know of any good sites explaining sky charts cause i really am lost

Once upon a time the 6 inch Newtonian reflector was considered the big gun of the amateur astronomy world. It's certainly an excellent starter scope even today, I hope you really enjoy it. Not being a victim of "aperture fever" I prefer that size and smaller. I'll offer just one piece of advice: read up on eyepieces. The telescope is half the battle, but a good telescope combined with the right eyepiece for the subject you want to view is a true pleasure.

Dont worry too much about star charts. They are just charts with dots where the stars are. Start off by learning a few constellations (groups of stars) like orion, Auriga and Gemini in the Winter sky. and of course the plough. Once you know a few constellations, you can then look at a star chart of that constellation and see what there is to look at with your telescope, such as nebulae, clusters and galaxies.

I had the C6N and the optics are great which is what you would expect from Celestron. Which mount did you get with it CG5 or CG5GT?
