Hey guys.Just home from work. There seems to be no events or anything around Leitrim. It seems the nearest place for me to receive the "personal touch" in relation to learning how to navigate the sky would be Galway.I hope i'm wrong, but if not it would be cool to hook up with the gang from Galway,if possible.I'm a complete novice but I know that I would benefit greatly from meeting or going out star gazing with a club or anything. If you know the situation can you let me know.
Cheers

Howdy Ciaran,
Good timing; the monthly meeting is next Monday at 8. If it's clear we usually do some observing afterwards.
+ Yer welcome to PM me if you're coming into town at any stage and would like to go observing.
I'm sure some of the other lads from Galway will add their voices here.
Cheers,
Trev

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

Yup! We should be starting up our monthly observing sessions again. As it comes into winter and the days are darker sooner its a ripe oppurtunity to meet up with the gang and stargaze witha cuppa tea and a mugga soup!
WE used to go to silver strand beach which is just 5 minutes from galway city and is quite a dark site!
There are a nice variation of scopes in our club these days so you can get a real feel of the different telescopes.
Well get the observing sessions up and running again once every month.
Hope to see you soon ciaran,
Matthew

Hi Ciaran,
welcome along to IFAS!
Don't forget, no county is left out when there are one of the three annual star parties in Ireland: Whirlpool (Birr, Autumn), Galway (Winter, Galway), and Cosmos (Spring, Tullamore). You'll find lots on them on these boards with a search.
Unfortunately, clb-wise, Leitrim is one of those few counties that has no 'representation'. You could try setting up an astronomy hobbyist group yourself...
Seanie.
