YOUR OPINIONS AGAIN PLEASE was created by Maygrey
Hi all,

Would love your comments on this picture.. most exposures were 80seconds (un guided!!!! :D :D )... 15 exposures stacked...still looks very grainy and lack detail..
I would have thought that 80 sec exposures should bring out beautiful detail... am i wrong?? really happy with exposure length though... no tracking or guiding.. way to go celestron!

Very good.

Captured some of the nebula very well Kevin.

If you want to see the full (?) extent of the nebulosity have a look at Tony and Daphny Hallas's mind-blowing pic here:

Kevin,
I still like your shot, especially if it's close to a first attempt, then it's even something to be proud of. You don't have the set up details though, for us to be able to give you further suggestions (camera, scope, ISO etc etc).

Hi Seanie,

The picture was taken with Conon 400D piggyback mounted (on Celestron 9.25 SCT, though thats prob not relevant).. ISO 800 with exposures ranging from 80 to 120 seconds, 15 in all, stacked in deep sky stacker and adjusted in deep sky stacker and photoshop elements.

My problem is that i think I am missing something... Should the unstacked single exposures show any detail?? Surely they should.. this is typical single untouched frame straight from camera... is this wat it should look like?

Also please look at these whirlpool single exposures of 80(ish) seconds prime focus through above mentioned scope.. dark sky good conditions.. iso800.... the first is completely untouched direct from camera, and just tho show it IS actually whirlpool, the second pic is same but just a simple auto levels ran.. LOOKS WRONG TO ME :?

Hi

They look great maygrey. Did you take any darks, flats, bias etc. The way to get rid of the graineyness, I think, is to take more subs and stack. This will get rid of all the random noise as the more you take the better the final image will be.

Keep up the good work :)
