Best places to observe the sky was created by Tony
Hi there!

Just joined! Taking back up astronomy after a break of around 18 yrs!
Just ordered an 8" reflector telescope and live in the Dublin 20 area. From the southeast so new to the area. Can anyone tell me some good spots to observe the night sky thats relatively close to my area? Travelling is no problem as long as its not an hr away or more!
Also, is there any point in even using the telescope in my back garden or will the light pollution make it a complete waste of time? Its my first telescope but am experienced enough in finding my way around the sky.

Cheers!
Tony.

Hi Tony,

Welcome on board.

Those of us in Sough Dublin usually observe out by the sugarloaf which is not too far away. We'll be meeting up this Friday (weather permitting) and you're more than welcome to join us.#

Hi Tony,

The meeting point is on the site here.
Go to clubs and maps then observing sites and then SDAS meeting point.

I've just noticed that the pointer is a little off.
The meeting point is not on the mountain but is at the bend in the main road below it.
