when not in use was created by tomo
Now that i have my 12" dob i dont know where to store it.
I would like to know some opinions, currently storing it in shed with no heating but im running a small dehumidefier at night.
I used a small dehumidefier bag wich turned to gel after 2 weeks, so its fairly damp there.
scope is covered with patio heater cover as well.
should i get some heating in the shed?

Tomo,

To state the obvious, you need to store it in the driest possible place. Of course indoors is best for that but if it must be stored in the shed then you need to find a way to keep the optics dry. You can buy large bags of silica gel beads on ebay for half nothing. E.g. goo.gl/z2O4N

This will keep the inside of the scope dry as long as you keep the caps of and have it fairly airtight. You could just hang it with a peg from one of the secondary mirror supports. These have little indicating bags attached which change colour as they get saturated. Once they do all you need do is pop em in the oven along with the sunday roast and they come out recharged and ready to go again. If you buy two you'll always have one ready to go as long as you keep it in an airtight bag when not in use.

I should add that if you do nothing you will end up with mildew and fungus feasting on the coatings of your optics.
