CPC 800 advice was created by Tonio50

Hi all

I took the plunge and got a cpc 800 secondhand. I've spent the weekend figuring it out and have fair grasp of the basics.

It only came with the 40mm lense. What lenses would you recommend to see Saturns rings (if it's possible with this scope). I'm going to Wicklow for the weekend and am hoping for clear skys:-)

Karl in AI told me to bring to it him on Wednesday so he can update all the firmware and show me how to get the best out of it. While I'm there I could pick up a few things.

I also got the neximage and managed to get that working by downloading the latest driver.

No such luck getting the nexremote to work....I got the latest version and it seems to connect to the telescope (I hear the connect beep on the pc) but nothing happens when I click the buttons. Perhaps it's the firmware...

Anyway thanks to everyone for the advice so far...I really appreciate it.

Tony, I'd recommend you stick with the 40mm for the moment until you get used to the scope. You'll still see Saturns rings. The image scale will be a little on the small side but you'll see them. See how many of Saturns moons you can count!

The first thing you need to do is learn how to align the scope. Once you do that you can use the goto feature to look at some deep sky objects. Look for M13, and M3. Two lovely globular clusters which will blow your mind when you see them. Don't worry too much right now about connecting it to a computer. Small steps first.

The thing about eyepieces is that there is such a wide variety. You can pay anything from €30 up to hundreds for them so take your time.
Regards and Clear Skies,

First of all congrats on your new scope.I am sure you will be happy with it for years to come.
Now as for connecting to a PC I really don't see a reason you should be worried, the way I see it you would need it if you are thinking to put in observatory or your hand controller doesn't work, other than that I can't think of any other reason you should use it via PC?its just extra stuff you have to bring out when you observing.
As for eyepieces I would hold off from buying.your 40mm is more than enough for a beginner but if you really think you need one then a zoom eyepiece is probably the best choice.it gives you a wide selection of magnifications and gives you a feeling of what your scope is capable of.
