There is lynkeos , but I haven't had a chance to try it and I don't know how it compares to registax.

Another option would be to go down the virtualisation route and use something like virtualbox* to run windows on your mac and process the images in that.

For learning there are plenty of tutorials online, of varying quality, which will get you started. I found going to club talks where some of the planetary imagers on here go through their process to be very valuable in learning too.

Cheers,
~Al

* disclaimer: I work for Oracle who acquired virtualbox, but it's a free product, so I'm not advertising really :)

Hi Dave, I use "Lynkeos" and find it works well for planetary imaging. Processing the same files on a Mac with Lynkeos and on a PC with Registax gives more or less identical results. For Deep Sky Objects I use "Nebulosity", which might interest you because it has functionality for controlling Canon cameras. Other options include "Keith's Image Stacker" and "Equinox Image". Have a look at Jerry Lodriguss site for listings of software packages for Mac (and Windows) (www.astropix.com/HTML/I_ASTROP/SOFTWARE.HTM). There is even a Yahoo Group for Macs in astronomy. Mike

PS I'm a big fan of "AstroPlanner" for planning and logging visual observations, and of the "Voyager" planetarium/scope control package.
