Well done Yohan on capturing the aurora from Monday night. Very nice pictures!

I live in Terenure but drove out to Walshestown, just off the first Balbriggan exit on the M1. I found a spot down a very minor road which allowed me park in a gateway and kept an eye on the sky from 11:30pm to 1:30am. Venus and Jupiter along with the Moon were quite nice see slowly sinking towards the NW horizon.

About 1am (Summertime) I spotted a broad sheet of the aurora stretching up towards Polaris. The display was framed by the Plough and Cassiopeia. It subsided not long after but sporadic rays continue to drift from left to right above the northern skyline for a brief period until 1:20am. I left very happy soon after as this was my first aurora in ten years, since the last solar cycle.

I was talking to Daniel Lynch during the display but he couldn't see anything from the grounds of UCD. Martin McKenna in Maghera was clouded out for a time but did secure some shots later -- see www.nightskyhunter.com -- while a few others I was online with on Facebook at the time had varying degrees of success in spotting the display.

It looks like activity really surged later on again but this was not far off the sky getting light from here. The persistent twilight at this time of year made any observation of the aurora difficult so well done again on getting those images.

There is more Aurora forecast for this
evening as far south as London in the UK
so I think that would qualify all of Ireland for
a good display, all we need now is for those
pesky clouds to shift.. Here's to hoping, best of luck
to all you crazy Aurora hunters(myself included).

Cheers Roy
