Hello everyone.
I thought I ought to give any of you who are interested in observing the Moon that there is something rather interesting occurring tomorrow night Monday 10th June.
At some time between 8 to 10 pm Rupes Recta is going to appear right next to the Moon's terminator.
This lunar feature is my personal favourite ever since I first observed it in the 1980's. It has repeatedly stopped me on my tracks over the last number of decades.
Rupes Recta is otherwise known as the Straight Fault and it is 110 kms long. There is a small mountain range at its southern point; which makes the entire feature look like a sword whether you are using a reflector or a refractor.

Please report back here if you are successful in observing this remarkable event.
Monday nights' weather is forecast to be good.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

I have the crater Thebit and Thebit A right on the terminator at 8 pm.
So it will probably take about 2 hours before anyone can see Rupes Recta.
It seems my Guide 9.1 DVD is a bit ahead of itself.

However it is a glorious evening.
And I will keep an eye out for the Straight Fault.
Then I will rejoin you all when it finally appears.

Aubrey.

No, Keith. I most certainly did not!

It is definitely the case that Guide 9.1 DVD shows that bit too much beyond the Moon's terminator.
I'm so very sorry about all my hype. Lesson learned for sure this time.

Honestly -Guide 9.1 showed that Rupes Recta was going to appear inside the terminator from 9 pm local time.
And I kept going back to the Moon repeatedly until Midnight.
All I saw was Thebit, A and L but no Rupes Recta at powers up to 225X.

But after all that, I can tell you all about something that I have searched for 30 years which did show up well inside the terminator.

And I will tell you all in a few hours time.

Thank you, and once again, apologies all round.

Aubrey.

It just goes to show that my Guide 9.1 DVD is not to be trusted on such occasions.
And I therefore offer my sincere apologies regarding the appearance of Rupes Recta to you, Keith.

Still I am over the Moon (pun intended) over my 1st observation of Rima Hadley.

Regards

Aubrey.
