This mag 2.9 star in Gemini is being occulted by the 87% Moon tonight, from 0120 - 0236 UT Limerick time. It's the brightest star to be occulted as seen from Europe this year.

Observed both the immersion and emersion in below freezing temps... Difficult to be exactly sure of the immersion time due to the extremely bright limb, but the emersion was spot on at 02.36:24 UT.

Many congratulations, Finbarr, for enduring the freezing temperatures!

What a magnificent sight it must have been to see the complete occultation of Tejat.
Is Tejat otherwise called Mu Geminorum?

Just wondering.

Clear skies,

Aubrey.

Thanks guys. Yes it is Aubrey, Mu Geminorum indeed. A red Giant 100 times the diameter of the Sun and 5 billion times further away than the Moon...

Brilliant, Finbarr.
I am also certain that Propus nearby is a superb true binary.
It has been a real test for my 158 mm apochromatic refractor to split it at 225X.
Although once I was successful at 167X.

Anyway that video of Tejat reappearing is very dramatic.

Clear skies,

Aubrey.
