Winter Solstice / Summer Solstice/ a global passive event ?

Comments welcome

Lets not forget our fellow observers in the southern hemisphere
they are in their summer solstice, ie longest day in their year ,

Charts courtesy of Sydney Observatory
Keep in mind the wonderful sky we share and do not ever share visually
with our fellow observers in the southern hemisphere.

Damn, a day and a half too late. :x And it was a nice sunny morning too. Did those lucky buggers in Newgrange get to see the live performance?

Book your tour for next year:

www.newgrangetours.com/links.html

(Mary Gibbons is the best tour guide there is, in my unbiased opinion.).

Tell Mary that her brother Peter sent you and she might give you a cut!

What are my chances of that now, considering you publicly said that to about 10,000 site visitors here! ;)

Newgrange is great to visit all year round.

As only a few can actually fit into the chamber at the appointed solstice hour there is a lottery system in place.
So everyone has a chance.
See:

(Because the rising sun "shifts position on the horizon" at it's slowest pace of the year during solstices, the illumination can be seen for about two days either side of the solstice.)
