cool cat was created by johnomahony
My new Lymax 11" cat cooler has just arrived from OPT. Again no issues with C&E. It is essentially a fan and a long rod with perforations in it that blows cool air into the tube and extracts the warm air. It only blows air towards the side of the tube and not directly at any glass surfaces. It has a filter to avoid any dust getting in. It plugs direct into the 1.25" or 2" adaptor and runs from a 12v power pack via a ciggie lighter plug. The air flow feels quite weak but apparently this is all that is needed. This also avoids any high speed dust particles inside the tube. I'll let you know how it works out in practice.

Hi John,

sounds interesting. From your description, does this physically go into the focuser, and then your eyepiece into it? If so, where does the filter go?! Have you got a link to it online?

Hi Seanie

it plugs inside the scope through the eyepiece socket. You let it run for 10-15 minutes before you remove it and put in the diagonal and eyepiece. Here is the link.

It was $120 for the 11" version from OPT. Again I didn't have to pay customs

Ah yes, I understand better now John, thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking it might be strange to insert it into the focuser along with an eyepiece!

Let me know how you get on with that John. The big issue for me would be whether the filter is able for the job.
