With the closure of the May Astrophotography Competition, it is time to judge the entries. Please view the included images, and select from the poll options which one you would like to see the winner. There is no need to reply to this post, or add comments - peoples views are their own but may seem to sway favour towards a particular photo if too many comments towards a particular photo is made.

The M81 Galxy taken on April 24th 2006 from Raheny Dublin, using a Celestron C9.25 SCT telescope reduced to f/6.3. 10 x 5 minute exposures with an ATIK 16HR CCD camera. Each image was autoguided using a modified webcam and guiding software. Only a UV/IR blocking filter was used. Processed using Images Plus v2.75, Paint Shop Pro and Neat Image Pro.

The Whirlpool Galaxy, M51, taken with a Takahashi Mewlon 300 on a Software Bisque Paramount using an FLI IMG1024 Dream Machine CCD camera. 3 stacked exposures of 120 seconds each. Snapped on 22nd January 2006.

M82 galaxy taken on the 9th of August 2004, using a Meade LX200 12inch with a Canon 300D mounted at prime focus. Single exposure of 6 minutes at ISO1600, manually guided.

Jeebus .... what a hard choice!

I would also seem that Galaxies in and around Ursa Major were very popular last month!
