It is with great pleasure that I get to announce that Paul Evans, from Antrim and member of the Irish Astronomical Association is the winner for July!

30 second exposure of our own Milky Way galaxy as seen from the South Island of New Zealand.

Congratulations Paul!

Thank you Seanie! I hadn't expected to win with that one as it's a very old photo shot on ISO 200 print film and I only recently rescanned the very thin negative along with two others of the SMC and LMC that I took at the same time along with one shot which won a previous competition.

Like most others I suspect, the weather in the months before this competition wasn't conducive to good imaging and I too had nothing recent to offer so I consider it to be a bit of a hollow victory.

What I'd really like to do of course is to take my current kit, modest as it is, to that dark location in NZ where the sky is quite fantastic, like nothing I've seen anywhere else, and have a go at some of the wonderful southern sky objects there.

Oh yes, I am indeed a former member of the EAAS - I left the committee in February and the society in April. I am now very happily a member of the IAA which is much more the sort of society that suits my interest.
