Your target for entry into December's competition will be on Orion, Constellation or Objects. Images previously entered into an Orion-themed astrophotography competition on these IFAS boards are NOT allowed i.e. some new images MUST have been taken in the time since! ;)

Closing Date: Monday December 31st.

Entries are to be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and should be hosted off-site, and linked to that provider. If in doubt regarding what to do, please read the Rules & Guidelines .

PLEASE make all images no larger than 800 pixels in width. Those that are larger will be requested to be made smaller, or failure to reply will result in omission from the competition. Some people have missed this bit in last month's competition :D

WEIRD.

Orion was the 1st constellation i ever knew by name and sight (i love it dearly). I joined here when it is so proudly gracing our skies and the competition is about it.

I'm looking forward to the entries on this one.

In no way was it anything like the others I've seen here, actually it's even got things that don't exist in our skies :)

Hello moon, goodbye image

Dear friends .... and Kieran,

Do NOT let the moon discourage you! Bright nebulae such as M42 are impervious to the moon. Here is a test photo in the presence of Luna taken last year and which involved THREE 3-min subs (from what I recall): www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-NGC-1976.htm .

If I know my ex-buddy Kieran, he is just using some reverse psychology on everyone by trying to discourage them from imaging and submitting something ... so that his submission (during full moon) will be the only one tendered.

Someone bought my 80mm before I got the new gear

Despite the remarks of my esteemed award winning colleague, I had planned to go for other targets which the moon will just make a wasted night.

Hey Anto, don't let all those hard won NexImagers trip you up on the way out to the scope

Kieran,

Next weekend is just fine, for we are (1) still within December and able to meet the deadline, (2) the moon is not an issue and (3) Orion will be at its highest (for imaging) with no lunar incursion. :D

Of course, the ugly thorn on everyone's side (the weather) is the only unknown (as usual).

By that time I will be so full of turkey, goose and boiled ham I won't fit through the door of the obs. Think I may lie outside and just stare upwards till I loose a few poounds.

Actually just had a thought, since Christmas is for the kids (and astros who need an excuse to buy new gear) I may let my six year old call the shots and see what she comes up with
