Aurora last night was created by mykc
The skies were clear on the south coast last night (Sun 23rd April), and the moon was young, so I did a spot of observing. Around 11:30 I noticed some an unusual glow and pillars of light in the sky to the north. At first I thought is was distant car lights, but it persisted. After rushing to get a camera with a wide lens, I was gobsmacked to see an amazing auroral display with vivid pink and green colours. The display lasted more than an hour and I got some good images. The one below is a 5 second exposure. Seeing bright aurorae in southwest Cork is a rarity and it was great luck that the conditions were so good. Lots of others must have seen the display but there's surprisingly little in the Irish media.

Was a really bright display on Sunday night, think only Western parts of Ireland - Cork / Connemara etc got a view of it due to the cloud. Photographed as far South as 30 degrees North on USA / Mexico border!
