Excellent NLCs last night was created by paulevans
Woke up at 2 last night, looked out the window, got dressed, grabbed the camera and started shooting!
This was an excellent display of NLCs, equal to the best I ever saw which was last June 2nd/3rd.

Zoom in, pan across, it's just like being there
Enjoy!

Wow! I've only just realised if you click on the image it gets bigger!
Paul,
I use a 40'' TV as a monitor for the laptop and my god...that image is stunning on it!
has to be one of the best NLC shots I've ever seen.
You should submit that to a few magazines or spaceweather and the like.
What kind of camera did you use?

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pleased with the image myself!
Frank, my camera is a Minolta Dynax 5D. I used a 50mm f1.7 lens exposed for 5 secs at f2.8 ISO 200 on each of the two frames which were stiched together with Serif Panorama Plus 2. Using a fixed focal length lens helps a lot as it's both sharp, collects plenty of light and by virture of its simple construction is fairly resistant to flare. The camera was mounted on a tripod which was stood on a chair so it could see out of the velux window in the top of my house giving maximum clearance from the street lighting
Clear skies,
Paul.
