Lunar Fogbow was created by Frank Ryan

During an observing session on Friday night in The Burren some fog rolled in over the observing site. With the Moon almost full and at around 30° altitude the conditions were just right to produce a 'Moon fogbow' and sure enough within a few minuets one appeared directly behind. It's the first time I've seen one and over the rocky barren landscape of the Burren it looked fragile and eerie.

Taken with a Canon 350D & Takona 12mm wide angle lens.

Nice photo Frank. Did you use the Flash on the camera when you took this photo?

That's the first time I've heard of a Fogbow

No. It's a few seconds exposure.
I'd never seen one before but I had read about them here:
www.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/fogmoon.htm
There is a sight overlap between these kind of optical effects
and astronomy as a whole but it's interesting none the less
to understand how they occur.

There was a nice Lunar halo also on the night but I
didn't bother taking a pic of it.
Sometimes it's better to just look at the thing rather than
be fumbling around with a camera.
