Michael and Dave G,

I actually have over a 1,000 images of galaxies taken down to about 19.5 mag. It's been awhile now since checking them. I sent a certain amount of them to Dave Mc about a year ago for the north polar region he was interested in targeting. The pole region is a fertile area as most supernova hunting is been carried out in lower latitudes.

They could be sent as a CD to the blinkers or easier still, I could send them the target ones for the region we are interested in. If I recall they were not in FITS format and I think I forgot to provide the coordinates only NGC numbers. I'll have to check this all out.

May be Dave Mc could refresh my memory regarding the above.

Sorry for the tardy reply folks...

Thanks to the additional volunteers - I've added your names to the list. So far, we have 5 imagers and 11 blinkers.

There is some work taking place on blinking software so we'll see how that pans out. There is also at least one other option. I think it is important, as pointed out, that blinking should be available to all, regardless of their platform. So that's what we will try to ensure.

As regards the database of target galaxies, I'd forgotten that you had the 1000+ images Eamonn

For the target list to work, we would need RA/DEC co-ordinates. An NGC name could give us that though (with a bit of detective work). We might also need to filter them for anyone using a fork mount - given they are concentrated on the NCP region.

They will also need to be in FITS format. And that raises another point - imagers should produce images in FITS format also. Can I assume you can?

I'll work on a process flow over the weekend to determine how this thing will work. We can then start to get the tools together that will facilitate the process.

This said, I would really like to get some images off to the blinkers so they can try things out. I personally have a number of galaxy images that can be used for a blinker trial. Does anyone else? Eamonn?

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

I'm afraid I won't be able to volunteer for any blinking imaging  but I noticed your comment about going by the NGC number.

The NGC/IC project at www.ngcic.org/ has done a trojan job of cleaning up the errors in the catalogue and is a good reference now.

An even more amazing achievement is Steve Gottlieb's observations of ALL the NGC objects -- the full list of his observing notes is at www.ngcic.org/gottlieb/default.htm :!: :!: :!:

atb,

John

John - they're superb references! Thanks for posting them on.

Very interesting to see Birr played a part.

Cheers
