The "solve one problem by creating another one" idea...hmmm...I see where you're coming from and yes we do have a bandwidth problem.
We need to address this bandwidth issue at some stage and it not likely that the issue will go away either; in fact, it's likely to get even worse as the popularity of the site increases.

I have a few ideas on the back burner for this one. There will be some changes to the scrap book to prevent some types of abuse of the files section that chew up bandwidth and I'm planing to move the entire files section "offsite".

Not creating another off-topic discussion, and please don't quote figures publicly here Bart (as IFAS Treasurer!), but does IFAS have the funds, if it had to, to locate to a higher bandwidth provider?

A little higher, yes but not dramatically. However, I may be in a position to make a little personal donation (of resources not money) to remedy that but I won't say anymore till I sort out the details and then run it by the old committee!

To add to Barts response Michael, from my point of view, if it was that easy to insert an image into a post, then the bandwidth would be eaten up in weekswith everyone inserting images at will!

Though it might be possible to restrict the images being uploaded to the boards to a certain size, which might reduce the problem.

That does happen on some other boards alright e.g. a 25KB limit. Though, at that kind of resolution in astronomy, you're not going to get 'the full picture'!
