Lads, I have an idea. (this always means work for the website team)

Is it possible to set up 12 heavens-above accounts, one for each IFAS club location and then make up a map like the club map and click your club "star"
and up pops a page from heavens-above giving ISS pass information. There would be a button on the front page "click here for ISS passes in your area"

This would be for people who haven't heavens above account and would provide a great free service to people on the site.

Dave,
We have done that on our homepage here in Kerry. See the link below. Maybe it is some thing each club should do instead of IFAS.... although the times do not really vary anywhere on the island of ours.

Good Idea.
A little tricky to set up what you suggest though no?
What about a small link to http://www.irishastronomy.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=2277
on the main page?

Nope, cause then you gotta log which means you have to have an account,

Trevor, what you have there is pretty much what I'm talking about.

Of course it can be done, rather easily actually. The semantics are simple: to have a map of Ireland (like the IFAS clubs one), and, with markers for specific areas on it, create hotspots that when clicked bring you to the HA info page for that location. But, that is the only drawback - you're then taken away from this site (unless there's an iFrames-or-other way of doing that). Something we have been thinking about already.

Let it open a new tab in explorer/firefox,that way the IFAS page remains, besides if you want to get back tot he IFAS page, its not exactly difficult to find.

I would make it a small java applet or flash application, although I know the site is trying to save on bandwidth. I get a good few gigabytes a month for $10 and can handle all sorts of apps without any problems, I'm sure your host has high limits too, if not then time to change

Hi folks,

i have done it on the DAS site http://deiseastronomy.com/
If you click on resources and then select the ISS hyperlink, there is a ISS position and ISS Times over Waterford hyperlink.

As Seanie correctly indicated, I achieved it using iFrames.

I incorporated the location 'globe' of the ISS location on the TAS homepage. That is pretty easy to do. I think it makes a neat little visual cue on other clubs websites too. I have to work out the location times though.

Of course, like many other small additions (Moon Phases, perhaps weather maps, who knows). It will all be experimented with in due course.
