Is there anyone here accessing the website on a dial-up connection (i.e. NOT on broadband)?

If so, is there much of a difference in how long the new website takes to load when compared to the old-style website?

I'd appreciate if you can post your comments here please.

Thanks.

This would be useful as we are trying to improve load times and we reckon we could achieve up to a 20% improvement in load times with some of the work that is underway.

I have broadband and I find its noticably slower then the old site, I use the SAC site to compare it against, it uses the older version of the software.
I can only imagine what dial up is like.

Is that ongoing Dave?

I use 2 different broadbands myslef depending on location (2Mb and 6Mb), and I don't find it slow enough to warrant a mention, most of the time.

It is a few seconds slower then the SAC boards which like the older site is almost instantaneous, but to be honest its not a problem for me and would not have said anything except I saw a speed related thread.

There is a noticeable increase in the load time of the website pages
since last night.
The 'slowest' (I'm not saying it's Slow per say - just
that the part of the now 'faster' site that is the 'slowest')
is the link into the forum.
I tried it a few times this morning and it can take from
6 - 10 seconds.
Once in, times for thread pages to load is about 5 seconds.

I'm on a 6MB.

I have noticed however that there are just some sites out there
that no matter what kind of connection you have they are just
slow by nature because they have tonnes of graphics.

I know there is a myriad of reasons why load times differ
from pc to pc & connection to connection.

I seem to be in a bottleneck area and like the old dial up days,
the more traffic later in the day it gets slower.
At 6 / 7 in the evening my connection is very slow
(for what is supposed to be 6Mb)

I tweaked Firefox a few years ago to load
or appear to load faster (the walk through is on the forums)
this may help Firefox users?

Anyway - well done.

Frank,
For some reason over the weekend, the website kept getting hammered with requests.
I am still unsure if it was denial of service attack or we just got swamped by a load of users.
I think at one point over the weekend, the user load was 300 users.
I tweaked a few settings in the web server last night to try to deal with the loads.
I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days to ensure we can cope with a huge increase in load

Wow 300 users!
I know I tried a few times last night
and it was down.
I just figured it was an unannounced 'down time' for fixes.
I wonder are they logging each request as a single 'user' ?

Looks like the attack is over.
We tweaked some settings and we think the website is faster.
Please us your feedback on the performance so we know if it has changed for others.

Thanks

Feels nice and responsive now alright. Though I am on Broadband.

Who'd want to Denial of Service attack this site? Or is it a general attack on the hosting server?
