The Calendar

The Calendar was created by Frank Ryan
I was just looking through the calendar on the left and
I didn't see anything about the 100 hours events or IYA events.
Mostly it's the club meetings.

Who is supposed to update it?
I'm assuming it's for the IFAS reps.
Can any user update it?

I see other posts on the Forum from other users about stuff that's not
in the calendar section - just wondering did the poster
forget about the calendar or can they not get access
or do they just not bother with it?

AFAIK, any user can update it.
For me it says "Add an event" in blue writing on the calendar page.
Do you have that?

Michael.

Cool, I see it now.
So anyone can post up events in there so ya?
I'll inform our IFAS reps to put in our public observing dates for
IYA & 100 hours so.
Surprising Dee has not done that.
Dee!
Update the calender!!
:P

I have tried to add an event but its not working for me.
I entered all the details and hit the save button, but the event does not appear in the calendar. No error messages were given.
Do you have to be given rights to do this??

I tried to add events to the calendar about two months ago , I did not have any access to it so I did not bother after that. I have no add an event link at all.

I have no "add event" feature on my calander page either. Is there anything that can be done?

I will take a look at this now and see if there is a rights-issue here or something.

I recall now I asked for access to edit
and I think Darragh it was that came back to say
I had it.
I think by the replys it was just the IFAS reps that
had access to edit.
I may be wrong though.

I think it was aimed at the IFAS reps so as to limit potential spam. If anyone here does not have the proper access (as an IFAS Rep) to it, please PM me and we'll get that sorted.

I'm setting up a Joomla based site at the moment. To fix the calendar issue you need to go into Joomla back-end => Site => Global Config => User Settings and change New User Registration Type to "Author." That will allow all new users to submit claendar events, web links, articles, etc. You will still have to change the rights of existing users to "Author" as well - not sure how to do that except one-by-one :(

If I can add, on the heels of having just read the jaw-dropping cascaded of posts about the site/IFAS dying (I go away for a few days and look what happens!) - I can imagine that the boys and girls involved in running IFAS and the website (who are all VOLUNTEERS, in case people have forgotten!) must be feeling pretty unappreciated about now. Well I for one would like to say a big Thank You for all your efforts, dedication and selfless hard work - It is genuinely appreciated here!

To the knockers out there - IFAS and the website are what YOU make it. If it's not all that you could hope for then help to fix the problem - don't throw stones at it and poke it with a sharp stick, because that's the surest way to kill it permanently.

To paraphrase (well, mangle, really) JFK: Ask not what your Federation can do for you - Ask what you can do for your Federation.

Due to the way I have setup access permissions with custom groups for the forum, the Events Calendar won't let some IFAS reps add an event.
I am not sure why this is happening, but I am investigating it

Actually, looking at the configuration and testing it out, anybody with with Editor permissions or above should be able to add Events to the Calendar.

If they can't, can they please send me a PM and I'll look into it

Thanks

Wrong thread, I know, but on the topic of New Email Notifications - I emailed the developers of Fireboard/Kunena about this and they say that that feature is not currently available... but they'll look into it as it's easy to implement.

So, there *is* a silver lining!

Philip,

I've replied to that thread on the Kunena forum.
As soon as it is released or I get a fix for it, I'll update the forum software.
The Kunena developers are doing a huge amount of bugfixing at the moment, much more than they ever did with Fireboard, so that will hopefully improve the forum

Hi Darragh.
Thanks for the help.

John O Mahony tells me he can get access to edit / add events
so is there any chance you could delete all the events
that are in the calender for SAC because although I still
have access to add, I cannot edit an event posted by 'admin'

We want to put in details of speakers each month and a change of room no. etc.

Cheers,
Frank.

Thanks Darragh.
I just posted one up there for Sat 7th of March.
It was for the public observing sessions for IYA.
I don't see it.
Does it take a while to upload?
When I saved the event I clicked on the big
floppy disc 'save' icon on the top of the page.
Is that right?

All events have to be approved by an admin, so it might take a few hours to show up.
I'll look into a way so that events don't require admin approval

Ah ok.
Well there will be two in there for approval regarding
the March observing sessions we are running so
because I submitted it twice coz that bit of info was not known.

If you could would you use the second one please, thanks!

Not having to wait on approval would be cool.
Thanks again Darragh.

I guess these things only come up when people
try to use them eh?
