How about making the default board date format as:

Y-M-d H:i

since that is the format that astronomers have always used for dates?

It is also close to the format recommended by the IAU, and is also very close to that used in both ISO 8601 and RFC 3339 (but with a slight improvement to human readability).

Additionally, can I suggest replacing all mentions of GMT with the more correct term: UTC, instead? The GMT usage has been obsolete since 1971.

Do you have a reference for that? There are a few pieces of software that I would like to file bugs against for this but never found an authoritative reference to point the developers to.

Hmmm .... interesting idea .... I have no objection to implementing it but some users may find it rather confusing.

What do others think?

bad idea. its a public board, and one where we encourage people with no experience in the science so I think that date format would be initially be confusing.
