Hi All,

The Dublin Stargazers are meeting at the Sugarloaf on Friday 17th July at 21:30.

Michael.

WELCOME BACK!

This being our first post COVID-19 lockdown meetup I think it would be prudent to add some guidlines for this event.

i) As we will be together for several ours, I would request all continue to stick to social distancing guidlines.
ii) Use of other peoples equipment is definately not recommended. In the light of this I would request that only members that have their own equipment should attend.

The sky will be relatively bright as it's still summer, but Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will be visible later on in the evening so it might be worth bringing whatever scopes you have that would best suit these objects.

How to find us:

Take the M11 out of the city until you reach the village of Killmacanogue. Take the turn-off for Glendalough and the R755 immediately after the first petrol station on the N11. Cross over the flyover towards Rockey Valley. After 4.2 k you reach the top of the hill and you pass the the Sugar Loaf Mountain on the left you turn left along the L1031 and reach the Sugarloaf carpark on the left after 750m

Provided clear skies are forecast, the plan is to meet at the Sugarloaf carpark at 9.30pm.

Astronomy in Ireland is a cold weather activity, so is really important to wrap up well. Bring warm clothing, especially a hat, coat and gloves, and ideally a hot drink and a snack. It can get very nippy up at the Sugarloaf especially towards the end of the evening even though it may seem relatively mild when you are setting off.

Remember this meetup is weather dependent and you must check back to the site at 6.00pm on the day to confirm that this meetup is going ahead.

If you wish to attend this meetup you must RSVP so we can have some idea of the numbers going. If you RSVP and you find you then cannot attend can you please notify us by changing your status to not attending

If you have a telescope then you are most welcome to bring it, or if you have binoculars.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on the next observing session.

Here's hoping for clear skies, I really want to observe Ophiuchus, Sagittarius and Scorpius before they disappear.

Hi Michael.
It's wonderful to know we have the opportunity to get back to the Sugarloaf Car Park after such a long time.
And a big thank you for the guidelines.
I sincerely hope all folk will adhere to them.
If the skies are clear on 17th July, I will be very keen to observe all 3 planets Jupiter, Saturn and Mars.
It would be a real honour and a privilege to observe all 7 planets in one year once again.
Especially as I have observed Venus and Mercury thus far.
Uranus and Neptune can wait until the autumn.
But getting back to the guidelines: how will we prevent passers by from asking to have a look through our telescopes?

Clear skies from Aubrey.

We'll have to put a bit of thought into that.  My first instinct is that we just have to say 'sorry,  COVID.....'

I thank you for that assurance, Michael.
It would be nice if Phase 4 would come before then.
Perhaps we could simply say to the passers by that the following time they could have the freedom to view through our scopes.

By the way, I very much hope we do have some clear nights before then!!
There appears to be no sign of clear skies over the weekend. How sad.

Best regards from Aubrey.
