Well that has to be yet another first for this site Frank.
Are you sure a swarm of insects aren't going to go all alien on you with it.
I got one bite on my arm, hardly notable, lucky me!.

Ahh shur all you can do is laugh right?
Who said astronomy was boring and unfunny?

Bites?
I'm covered with them.
I think a few of the buggers hitched a ride home in my suitcase!

Seriously though, I was reading on a few separate websites that
there a a good few nasties awaiting us astronomers in Russia.
One particular nasty tic that lives in scrubs near water can cause untold heartache.
(shrubs - near water - ringing any bells?)

Be careful people.

Here are some star trails and other pics from Greece.

sunset as we arrive in Athens.

45 minute star trail exposure of the polar area. The film seems to have a bias towards the red and is abit dim for this lens. I'll use iso400 next time.
The high res BMP of this image is something else. !!

highly zoomed in area of the same image. jpeg compression seems to have giggled the star trails.

Nice pics Dave.
Were they from the film camera?
They came out very good.
But Jpg compression is death for startrail shots alright.
One of them I note a red light making a trail.
Was this you searching for the camera?
It actually adds something to the shot if so!

Thanks for the kind words lads.
Frank, the polar star trails are from the film camera, the scorpius one is from the 300D.
Given the brightness of the sky there, I reckon 2 or 3 hour + exposures are feasible at that site. Next time !!
The red light was indeed me looking for the tripod.
Believe it or not, it took me 10 minutes+ to find the tripod after I left it alone at one stage, it was that dark there. !!

Lads, I have good news!
Speaking about memories, Nick Tremoulis made a lovely DVD with scenes from the Parnon July starparty. Yesterday we had a gathering at Nick's place and we all enjoyed it.
Wow!!! It 's fantastic!
I have 4 copies for you, and one copy for John Murphy! Hi John!
I think it is best to give the copies to you in Novosibirsk, rather than sending it by post mail. OK?

Guys, great news about Nick's DVD's please pass on our thanks and best wishes to Nick. He really is a great guy. Anyone who can squeez a decent sized scope, camping equipment and a toddler into a smart car is one 'smart' guy!:)
Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.
