I cant contain myself much longer. I just have to email the guys (and maybe some gals) at AI to tell them that their montly magazine (A&S) is REALLY getting better and better. The last 2 issues have been fantastic.
As Patrick (don't call me SIR) Moore says in the magazine about the magazine: "Astronomy and Space goes from strength to strenght".
Keep up the good work lads. It really is becoming a top notch magazine.
IMHO.

Many thanks for the comments. They are much appreciated. Its comments just like these which re-enthuse everyone and make us want to go that extra mile each month.

Ok forgive me if I got this all wrong but I sense a distinct sense of resentment quite often when A&S is mentioned here on these boards. I don't see such comments when people praise S@N or other mags. Surely if Paul thinks an A&S is worthy of praise then an there is no better place than an astronomy bulletin board to post such comments so that others can have the benefit of Paul's opinion. Others are just as free to say A&S is rubbish if they like.
Indirectly telling someone not to post such comments here is bad form in my honest opinion and doesn't do IFAS justice.
Look I don't want a row but anytime theres been anything positive mentioned about AI or A&S in the past while there has either been a deafening silence or such comments and it annoys the hell out of me for sure.

Dave i said DELETE...............not MOVE.
Stop confusing me,LOL.
Although i guess it fits here more then anywhere else.
Paul,
I moved it to the Stellar Media section as I felt it was relevant there rather in the General section. A link was left in the General section to re-direct someone here.
I held off on deleting it as I felt that was perhaps too much a measure. Your sentiments were genuine. All I was doing was highlighting was I felt was an obvious course of action. We get regular comments here on how good the magazine is and we don't delete them.
I think that it a bit OTT Dave and I take offense to that remark.Ok forgive me if I got this all wrong but I sense a distinct sense of resentment quite often when A&S is mentioned here on these boards. Michael, I'm sorry if you take offense, I have a lot of respect for you. However, I am directing this at the IFAS committee in general. I am voicing what a LOT of people have said to me of late.
Paul E: I'm sorry but I am just sick and tired of the general resentment which surfaces anytime there is something good posted about AI. I think a few of us need to take a close look at ourselves.

What I was getting at is the repetition, there is another post very similar to this one by the same poster fairly recently, are we going to see another welldone again next month and again & again & again, that's all I was getting at. I dont like seeing repetition, it drives me nuts.
We have enough stuff eating through our bandwidth as it is.
If someone feels that strongly about about how great a mag is, then write to the magazine itself.
I've been getting Sky&Telescope for many years, some great issues and some not so great, but you don't see me putting it up on any bulletin boards, and they do monitor some of them. I've better things to be doing.
Regarding the definite silence you feel there is about AI related items, nothing I can do about it if people are not interested and in fairness there has been little resentful comments about AI/AS in the recent past, if anything there was derogatory comments regarding this site in a recent thread by an AI person, but really, who cares.

Huh? A LOT of people want to rant at IFAS because you don't get enough praise on these boards? And the lack of praise is somehow the fault of the IFAS committee? Dude! Chill out for a while! 8-)
Somehow I think if I start a thread about how A&S is a very basic magazine, with often out of date news, promotion of only one shop and in general of a much lower standard than anything else on the market I think you'll find an excuse to rant about that alsoOthers are just as free to say A&S is rubbish if they like.

No one is deleting posts of praise A&S and no one is going to force people to post praise for you!
I'm off to read Astronomy & Geophysics over a mug of coffee. I'll be sure to let you all know if I decide to write to the editor congratulating them on their publication

I dont think this turmoil is the fault of the IFAS committee either! This is all getting a bit crazy and out of hand!
O.k fare play to Paul for voicing his opinion and he has every right! Its HIS experience! Let him have his opinion! And let a representative thank paul for his saying so as it is a compliment to the stated company etc.
Everyone can have their opinion on this matter whether positive or negative but ive just seen Paul get a nice verbal backlash for commending something he enjoyed! And by grown men! Crazy!
THIS IS EATING UP BANDWIDTH!!!! The amount of replies is whats killing us! If was just thanks guys i enjoyed your magazine, your welcome, hey bi dont have the same opinion as you, end of story we'd be saving a whole lotta money on our bandwidth!
Anyway im ranting here but i have no bias in this matter but its starting to get petty!
Ive followed these posts everytime theyve appeared and i felt i wanted to have MY 2 cents from an innocent angle!

And the end of all our exploring

IMHO, from a person with no bias, if this was about, say, an american magazine, there wouldnt be so much uproar about it being posted on these boards and an email being written instead!
But if the same thread appeared about the same hypothetical american magazine each month I think someone would also post and suggest they tell the mag.
I get the impression some people think this is the first thread about A&S mag started by PJ, it's not. Bearing that in mind a re-reading of the first few posts which triggered this shit-storm du-jour might yield a more innocent interpretation.

PJ, your kind words would be appreciated no matter what. Repetition just gets boring, though I will admit you don't do it as regular as you used to!

Dave Grennan, rest assured there is no conspiring within the committee. Hard to believe, I know, but do I look like the kind of bugger that would lie? (It's a rhetorical question, by the way!). We are only about 20 persons, barely 10 of which post even weekly here, so the lack of any responses to so-called AEye/A&S specific threads is down to the tens of other regular weekly users themselves.

One thing I do want to be clear on my complaint is directed at IFAS in general. I am really sorry that Michael's comment to Paul was the one which fired me off. Michael is a great guy, and has done as much as anyone in this country for astronomy. I have huge respect for Michael and to offend Michael does not give me any pleasure at all. Sorry Mike, I'll call you to discuss soon.
Just one point which I find just a teeny bit offensive:
I think you'll find an excuse to rant about that also
That is simply untrue Albert. If you were to post such a thread I would discuss it with you on its merits/demerits. I am not trawling here looking for an 'excuse to rant' as you suggest. I perceive an injustice (rightly or wrongly) and I comment on it.
Whether my 'perceived injustice' has merit or not will be decided by those reading these posts.
Anyway I've said my bit and others have said theirs, I have nothing further to add.
Dave.
