I'v loved science and astronomy since i was 4 and over the last 2 years have joined astronomy ireland and a cork club but they were completely independent of each other and didn't know any thing about each other though both had events in cork.It seemed pretty chaotic so i was delighted when i found this and learned that ireland has a proper scientific astronomy group the advanced observing group. :)

Seamus - hopefully this site will help you along your way in your enjoyment. As Dave (Lillis) says, ask all the questions you can think of - you'll always get a reply.

Glad you like the Advanced Observing Programme concept - let me know what, if anything, you're interested in and if you want to get involved, you'd be most welcome.

Well Seamus,
You've just described how many here got into astronomy at an early age. There are many types of astronomers here, observers, imagers, sketchers, cosmologists and equipment nuts like myself, I think you're going to like it here. :)

Welcome to our humble astronomical community Seamus! As was mentioned already, you can ask anything here, and almost all of us here have been 12 years old at one time or another... ;)

To help you along in your astronomical adventures in addition to the Advanced Observing Group, there are also our Challenges, which you can see on the right hand side of the site's homepage.

Enjoy your stay!

There are some who still think they are.

Welcome Seamus, there are so many people here only too willing to help, and remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question.

I wonder how long it will be before aperture fever strikes Seamus? :D

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to the IFAS board.

I have been told very discretely to be careful with a guy named Seanie Morris. Is this true? :P

This is Ben, helping out at the first Ballycullen Star Party in Jan 2007. No ... not the bald guy, he's to the left of Vals scope. He's quite a bit taller now.

Enjoy the boards Ben. When the weather's this bad you'll see all kinds of unusual posts (particularly mine :D )

I'll have to be careful what I say now.................
