I was in one in St Petersburg and they were showing cricket and had a string quartet playing classical music in the corner.
I didn't have the heart to tell them that this isn't exactly what you get in a typical Irish Pub

We might give it a visit if we get there at all.
If they're showing cricket, I wont be staying too long in there.

However, not a single reference if they have internet access or not. :?
Also, no email addresses are specified so that we can inquire about accomodations and pricing. :?

Looking at your signature I note a 20" Obsession ... awesome dude!!!
Can I assume it will be used for hires high power lunar/planetary work and, if so, what camera did you have in mind to go with this wonderful scope?
Anyway, many congrats on the new toy.
I have a killer scope coming my way as well over the next couple of months ... serious aperture, serious focal length and most certainly serious optics!

This scope is purely manual so imaging through it is very difficult as Saturn goes through the toucam field view in 2.5 seconds. Here is a post for the Dob
www.irishastronomy.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=6248&start=0
We managed to get a quick one of Saturn through it.
www.irishastronomy.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=6331
to be honest, for now I'm going with non-imaging with this scope.
So, what are you getting your hands on ??

This is awesome and I am delighted for you. If possible, get an Argo Navis when the budget permits it and you will be able to do VERY serious solar system work with this fine instrument. Was this a local purchase or did you get it stateside?
Let's wait for Friday and the start of NEAF in the US and at which point in time I may just be able to spill the beans on my forthcoming "baby".

i found there questions without answers about cost of such trip. One-way ticket Msk-Nsk cost as cheap as 3600RUR at s7.ru and more. Any way, 10 000 RUR for Msk-Nsk-Msk will be quite enough.
Accommodation. There are about 5 big hotels and many small. 24h with breakfast in *** will cost about 100euro. You can find cheaper variants as well, especially in campaign.
____
I making now internet project NovosibirskGuide.com - information about Novo for foreigners. There will be some eclipse information, as well. I read this topic and found out that info about climat, accomodation, places for observing is needed. You can ask me, if some other information needed and i'll write about it.
In the end of September the site will be ready, but, if someone plan his tour now and need more info, i can reprint texts there.

I can live with 100 euro no problem .... airline tickets to and from Russia are quite cheap and the total fare (two-way) will be under 700 euro (at least from Athens).

I hope it's the same if not better from Ireland.
As for acomodation,
I'm sure any of you lot wishing to post up images of the eclipse
asap will need broadband as a priority.
I'd like to try and both experience the eclipse and photograph it
without compromising on either.
In 1999 I was on a boat off the French coast and I didn't even have
binoculars, just a pair of eclipse glasses!
It was great to be able to take the whole event in without having to worry
or concentrate on equipment etc...
I did take one or two though...
(With a 35mm film instamatic .)
One was of the shadow just before it hit the boat which was cool.
the other was during totality..
I grabbed my (now wife) and turned our backs to the eclipse and
took a 'self portrait' kinda shot and that turned out awesome.
Our two cheesy heads together and a 'black hole' with a ring of light
around it just above us.
So I'm hoping to approach this eclipse in the sort of same manner.
(not by grabbing people and saying 'cheese' but..)
Just trying to get interesting wide field shots that give a feel for the moment.
There is a lot of emotion packed into just a few moments and
it'd be interesting to see can this be captured on film.

With 2.5 minutes totality, I suspect it would be difficult to capture totality in all its grandeur with a series of exposures and also at the same time enjoy it. I base this on my experience from last March.
However, with around 7 minutes totality in 2009, things there do seem much more reasonable and doable.

With abit of preparation and the right equipment and plan, you can image it and see it at the same time. I used a 2" flip mirror for this, without it, it would not have been possible.

I knew for certain what exposure settings I needed to have before and after totality as I had experimented at home in the previous weeks on the Sun, I made educated guesses for totality itself, I also made sure the mount would carry the scope with and without the filter (the filter weight can shift the scope, so you'd better know about it before hand).
You only have a few minutes (2-3 in Russian case) to get it right, if you don't prepare, you'll get blurred, cropped over/underexposed images which will be no use to anyone, or maybe only a small few good ones, much less then you bargained for given the effort in getting the equipment to site.
I know you said you're not going to use a scope, I would still do abit of practice on clear skies just after sunset to try and get a mimic of an eclipsed skies brightness. I would leave nothing like that to chance.

they do, mostly. But in russian

Barberskum, most hotels here don't have brodband, but it isn't a problem, because in city centre there are plenty of wifi zones.

You bet! Anything to catch up with you and annoy the hell out of you Anto (you know, 'accidentally' knocking over your tripod, stepping on one of your lenses, a proper 'mooning' in front of one of your exposures during totality!)
