A pity that this was rained off last night. A few hours later the Moon was unobscured, with Jupiter 6 degrees to the SE. Would have made a nice photo op.

Clearer skies,
Finbarr.

Hello Finbarr.

Here is my little report over here in Dublin:

We had heavy rain for a lot of the time.

When suddenly at 21.37 Irish Summer Time, the Moon showed up.

But the rain was still happening.

I had no optical instrument at all, but my wife, her friend and I saw the Earth's dark grey shadow covering the south eastern part of Luna with our own eyes.

However I could see this part of the eclipse for no more than 2 minutes.

Then the rain got heavy again.

And the partial eclipse ended at 21.52.

Still, it was my 5th observed Partial Lunar Eclipse.

Previous PLEs I have observed were: 16th July 2019, 31st December 2009, 16th August 2008 and 7th September 2006.

Last night's eclipse was the perfect forerunner for the Total Solar Eclipse that is due to take place on 8th April 2024.

In God's will, my wife and I will observe that one with our binoculars in sunny northern Mexico.

Clear skies to everyone from Aubrey.

Delighted to hear you caught a glimpse of it Aubrey. I wrongly assumed there was continuous rain/cloud across the country. From dipping into the rugby in Paris it looks like they were rained out there too.

That trip is something very much to look forward to in April.

Finbarr.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, Finbarr!
I'm so sorry you didn't catch even a glimpse of the lunar eclipse.
I'm glued to the snooker rather than the rugby.
But everyone to their own.
It's extraordinary that South Africa defeated New Zealand by a single point.
Talk to you soon, Finbarr, weather permitting!

Best regards from Aubrey.

Aubrey, glad you saw the partial lunar eclipse. From across the pond, I caught sight of the Moon between trees four minutes before the end of the penumbral stage. Of course, as expected it appeared uniform.
By the way, Sara & myself also got a nice forerunner for next April's eclipse: a annular eclipse from New Mexico. See my website for a few pics. www.variablestarnights.net

clear skies, John

Hello John.
I'm terribly sorry, but there are no pictures here of the annular eclipse
But I'm sure you can fix the little problem.

Clear skies from Aubrey.
