Good evening, Keith.
VX Andromedae must be the reddest star in the sky right now in December 2017.
I will most certainly be observing it during the rest of the month.

Well done in spotting it, Keith!

Carbon stars are great fun when we estimate their magnitudes.

Ohhh I know R Leporis extremely well.
But I have to say it appears to have lost some of its deep redness during the last 2 to 3 years.
The simple reason is it's quite bright.
Better to try when it is fainter.

My next red star will be the very dim Z Andromedae.
It's near EW Andromedae (see above).
Z And is not a carbon star though.
And it is faint.

Aubrey.
