It was great to watch it on the nasa channel as it landed, it seemed to be going exceptionally fast coming in, like 1100feet, a second later 1000ft then 900 feet, and your thinking, I hope the landing engine fires or this thing will become one with the Martian bedrock. Then as it neared the surface it dramatically slowed down, cool, it worked.
How far north is this thing anyway ?

Nice to see something work....I might be wrong but I think this tried and tested method of a controlled landing on Mars although expensive, has got to be safer than the "Beach Ball" approach.....70'ds technology?

Some great photos already....I feel a change of screen saver coming on :D
