Seanie,
The end of last year, i bought an 8" scope from Joner in the DAS club. I also built and automated tracking gear box and put it on a larger tripod. Its pretty good, does the job.

So it's the 8" you're going to put through its paces then... :)

Mostly naked eye and binocular stuff for me John (and a little astrophotography with Canon+tripod), I don't have much free time on my hands (baby on the way, home improvements, as well as work) so I don't bother taking out any scopes unless the seeing is exceptional or there is a very worthwhile target. I have a couple Skylux 70mm refractors (yep, a couple!), 75mm reflector, and 2 8 inch reflectors. I sold an ETX-70 and 6" reflectors i the past 2 years as well as a William Optics 80ED apo refractor that I just did not have time for... a shame, I know. I do get my hands on the club's 12" Dob now and again.

Still, When I have time I will surely be getting into it more. I hope come the Autumn that will be the case. Are you going to get more into the astrophotography yourself? Is CL2244 a target of yours to come?

Seanie.

Ahhh... To be honest, its easier to be an internet astronomer. There are so many images available from massive telescopes that it can take the good out of home astronomy. Its nice to take a look yourself but for proper resolution, you need the massive telescopes.

That CL2244 image is incredibly deep, you couldn't get close with a home telescope. Think about it Seanie, images like that one are some of the deepest images of the sky mankind has ever taken. I'm fascinated by some of these deep images.
