are promising clear skies for Monday night 17th October.
It seems a good night to set up our refractors, reflectors, SCTs or binoculars.
Whatever you have!
With the Moon out of the way, I promise I will try and see V382 Cassiopeiae once and for all.
If I don't - I won't bother with it again.
I'm firmly convinced that this carbon star is fainter than +13.0.
I do have a printed Guide 9.1 DVD map at the ready.
Clear skies, everyone, from Aubrey.

Hi Aubery, let's hope for a clear one. I'd like to help you out with this star V382 Cas, I can image down to magnitude 14.5 on a really good night, i'll try to image the filed, let's see how I get on...
This is a very seldom observed star, the latest observation in the AAVSO database is from last December
AAVSO -- WebObs Search Results
Keith.

Excellent to hear from you, Keith!
I will be utterly delighted if you could produce an image of V382 Cas.
I wonder if you could include 3 Tycho field stars.
Here are the designations and their magnitudes.
TYC 3662 2558: 11.0.
TYC 3662 2542: 11.5.
TYC 3662 2485: 12.3.
There is another field star that has a very strange designation.
It's called 3UC297-012796. It sits right next to V382.
Its magnitude is 12.7 and I have observed successfully.
Not to worry if you cannot, Keith.
There is no pressure.
You see, I firmly believe that V382 is fainter than any of the.above stars.
Thank you for the AAVSO link.
I am very familiar with it.

Hi Aubrey, I got it ! Fortunately the skies cleared and the winds died down. I managaed to get a 30 second exposure at ISO3200 to go deep. I have used the AAVSO 'E' chart for this star, I reckon photographically it's at magnitude 11.9 !
So it could be brighter than you think. Unfortunately, my image hosting website at flickr is down at the moment so I can't post a full resolution shot, I'm afraid all I can do for now is show you a very much reduced crop
I have marked the star with an arrow
Keith.

Thank you, Keith, for your sensational image!
You definitely got the right star.
Congratulations!
Sadly I looked and looked over and over again and again using each of my eyepieces - even my most powerful ones. My Radian 3mm gives 374x.
But there was just no sign of V382 Cas.
Maybe I will try again another time.
However I had an excellent time observing Jupiter later in the night.
And I promise I will inform everyone here as to what I observed.
Very best regards from Aubrey.
