It was this snippet from the last para that caught my attention:
"As far as the outside world is concerned, I know that the exciting bit is the end result – the recreation of the big bang."
I doubt very much if the outside world would be too chuffed if they *did* re-create the big bang. But then I suppose they would know very little about it - at least those at CERN would be gone in an instant, the rest of the world following a few yoctoseconds later...
