Trip Around The SOLAR SYSTEM !

I'm using an LX90, I don't know how that compares with yours as I don't know what size the etx70 is.

I don't know if everyone else has a viewing routine that they check in on before looking for/at other things, but I would feel rude If I didn't check out those first three items as soon as the scope is aligned and they are around.

My routine is pretty much the same as Bill's except that up till now I've been using bino's most of the time. (I haven't been using my ETX70 as I have been suffering from power problems which might have just been solved on another thread) Uranus, I reckon your next port of call should be Jupiter. It's hard to believe that you can actually see it's moons with just a modest pair of binos!

A better image of the moon is possible, The yellow colour is not present if you use the direct viewing port (not built in diagonal), the barlow doesnt help matters either.

I put on a 14mm meade UWA on this scope and the views went from been "what I expected" to "I can't believe I can see this in a 70mm scope"!, altough its not really fair using an eyepiece which is much dearer then the scope itself.

Hunt down all the planets, pluto is beyond what this scope can show, but you can at least slew to it
Go through all the Messier objects. and the double cluster in perseus, once you've done this, you will have a lot seen.

I found the "tonights best tour" pretty good, but having a list of quasars in there is a bit much, just skip over them.
It showed M35 very well, a real glitter effect in dark skies.

Are those images above taken with the standard ETX70 or with the expensive eyepiece? How much was the eyepiece?

I am taking the advice to go after Jupiter next..

Going to fing it and use the 5mm eyepiece... am I on the right track?

what are the extension tubes supplied with the etx70 for?

Any other ideas really appreciated.

All the images in the previous posts were taken without any eyepiece.
I used prime focus, I took the eyepiece off the telescope and took the lens of the camera and put the body of the camera where the eyepiece would be on the telescope.

I haven't used eyepieces in astrophotography yet.

When you try jupiter, use the loew power eyepiece first, just to make sure you can find it, I prefer to use the lower power eyepiece with the 3x barlow, its easier on the eye.

Jupiter it is then...


My only problem is that it does not seem to come up high in the sky at night !


Well not as high as Saturn...

So I will try..

I am observing from my back garden and have houses at back, like a lot of us I suppose...

But will do my best...
