Just in from a session in the back garden :)
Today, I finally got the GOTO function on my ETX-70 to work properly. Mainly due to the purchase of a 3" spirit level :)
Anyhow, the clouds finally showed some gaps and I got the scope setup. Observed a few of the brightest objects including Spica and Arcturus but Jupiter was just great. I could plainly make out the moons: Io (very close to Jupiter) as well as Callisto and Europa. On the other side I observed Ganymede and what I thought was another moon (ahem) but was most likely HIP70714 (Thanks Starry Nite!).
Next I'll have to get the webcam working with registax.
Really enjoying this. I guess we could all do with some more clear skies though :)

I really must think of something interesting to use as a tag line!

You know, thats the funniest thing... the clearest nights are in winter, when most people are chicken to go out and actually do some observing! :P I find it frustrating to do observing at this time of the year because of the lack of dark skies, and at most times, free from haze, even when clear! :D

Well its midnight here, and the sky is still blue, the only thing I can see clearly through the scope (brightness wise) is Jupiter and even at that its so low down its not easy to distinguish features. :?

Never thought I'd hear myself say this but - Roll On Winter!!!
I'm about sick of blue skies after midnight.
