I think its lovely that earths moon has a name. Selene is a womans name so why dont we all say we loojk at "the woman in the moon" rather then the MAN in the moon?

Thats a name for it. Or at least seems to be since the Japaense launched a probe with that name last year. We call it The Moon because thats the old english for it and only in the late 1600's did it come to include the jovian moons as well. After whatever the equivalent of an IAU drinking convention was in the late 1600's! Luna or Moon (or similar) are what its called across europe. Ghealach in Irish isn't it?
Or did the IAU go for another pissup to decide this?

1600? Hah! The IAU was around loooooong before that The IAU nomenclature sub-committee has its roots back in ancient Greece!
