Why? What better definition of a planet could you come up with? Or do you think it would have been better to make an exception for Pluto? If so, why?

Possibly not, but could you do any better? Also, this has to be agreed by committee, creativity seldom makes it through committees :(

Why? What better definition of a planet could you come up with? Or do you think it would have been better to make an exception for Pluto? If so, why?

I don't know if I could do better, but to simply derive it from Pluto just sounds silly! Besides, I thought the definition of a planet was made from that of asteroid, of which there are now KBO's and Plutoids as sub categories. I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm only saying the word is a bit silly. It's like the stuff was conjured up in a playground or kids fort rather than a scientific gathering in a conference room.

Plutoid... Come on!

Oh sorry ... miss-understood you ... I thought you said that pluto not being a planet was stupid.

Plutoid doesn't sound great ... but I can't do any better ... it will just have to do I guess.
