It's always great to hear from you, Darren.

No. That time we were in Glencullen we saw the reappearance of Jupiter's moon Io.
Io appeared from behind the giant planet.
Some astronomers call such an event as an egress.
But the word egress is rarely used these day.
If a satellite disappears behind Jupiter that is called an ingress.
But again, that word isn't used too often either.
So therefore when a star disappears behind the Moon - or rather the Moon is passing in front of a star - astronomers are now only using the term "occultation" at these days.

And you're right - it was a very special event.

50X is perfectly fine for these occultations.
I just wanted to see what it would like with a higher magnification.
And I must say I was very pleased with the result.

Many congratulations for seeing your very first occultation, Darren!
I'm looking forward to your next sketch whenever it comes.

I promise to announce any further occultations in the future here on IFAS.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

Ah yes, that's right Aubrey... It was Io and Jupiter!

So, that was my first occultation then... Looking forward to some more.

I miss not sketching; I'm just not up for it at the moment as this pesky infection just won't budge.

But do let us know when there'll be another occultation. Also, very many thanks for providing those correct terms... They're always appreciated.

Clear skies,

Darren.
