New Focuser Arrived.... was created by michaeloconnell
My William Optics SCT Focuser arrived yesterday...

FYI; it has a travel distance of approx 32mm. The primary focus knob (the silver one) completes one rotation for approx 15mm focus travel. The micorfocuser (the black knob on the outside of the silver one) works with a 10:1 ratio i.e. 10 rotations of the microfocuser equates one rotation of the main focus knob. Therefore, one complete rotation of the micofocuser equates to approx 1.5mm focus travel. This should hopefully prove useful with astrophotography. It weighs 1.2kg, so counterweights are recommended obviously.

Thanks Lads.
I probably should have pointed out that I placed the focuser after the diagonal due to clearance issues at the base, especially as I currently use it in polar mode. However, if I do decide to go back to alt-az mode, I could place it between the visual back & the diagonal and simply program the autostar to restrict the elevation of the scope to a user-defined angle so as to prevent the diagonal hitting the base.
Hopefully it'll help with the astrophotography.

Are you saying that its more likelt to hit the base in polar mode??
I would have thought it was more prone to this in altaz mode, my setup certainly is more hittable in altaz mode.
