ETX 105 PE....any good was created by lennonj
Guys, i have a scope ive been using for a few months but its not the best. I was just about to order the Meade ETX-105 premier edition on line but im in two minds now to get it. Its working out at 1000 euros thats including shipping. Does anyone have any feed back on this scope or could i get something better for that money...

Again any info would be great lads....

Thanks

Well, I guess you have to ask yourself, what are you looking for in a scope? Is it aperture? Or is it for the GoTo? Is it for tracking? That €1000 is getting you a 105mm (4 inch) refractor scope on a GoTo mount...

In comparison, €750 can get you a 300mm (12") reflector scope on a Dob mount.

In my boots right now, I'd try going for the 12" dob, and use the leftover money towards an equatorial mount, and setting that in a tripod or pier.

But thats just me.

thats seems like alot of money for a 4" scope, I though the etx125 was about 1000$ in the US, that would be worth it for me.
If you're dead set on a goto, I'd go for the biggest scope you can find, just make sure you know what to expect visually from a scope that size.

Just been released, I bought the 102 SLT and I'm happy so far:

For the cost it's good value, I'd expect a bit more aperature for 1000 euro.

maybe something along these lines:

www.telescopes.com/products/Celestron_C1...assegrain_32990.html

Then you would have a sturdy mount and could upgrade the OTA to 8" or 11" etc when you have a bit more cash.
