I think Dave L means the fork to be precise, from what i understand.

I have the 8" LX90 and find it great. To be honest though, I know very little about the 12" version as it's relatively new. A good place to get some advice, albeit biased, is the LX90 yahoo group:

Your choice of scope will depend on how to plan to use it. Do you intend hauling this scope around or do you have an observatory/plans for one?

Lads,
The tripod is pretty good and is not really a problem.
The real issue with the scope is fork stability, be it the damping times or the motor load.
I presume the motor/worm system used for the 8" is also used for the 12", just like the lx200, if so this is another weakness.
I'd imagine the main electronics are probabily ok.

Do any US meade suppliers ship to Europe, or are they all banned?

I think they're 'banned' - you'll need to go through an authorised distributor. You could try and circumvent that, but for the value of what you want to buy, you're best not to. If you do, you'll likely lose and warranty, guarantees etc. And you mightn't save much anyway.

The US vs EU/UK prices will tempt you to buy from the US. But by the time you add in shipping, insurance, duty and VAT, the difference in price you pay is minor.

Thats class.... although my thinking is it would be wasted in skies 3 miles from Dublin Airport.....I think ill go with the 12" Lx90...and get the 20" to compliment it when i get my detached house in the middle of nowhere.... :D

Its just so galling to see the Lx90 12" Lnt for $2600, and in the UK its £2600.
:x :x
