Should I buy a Celestron Omni XLT 127 was created by Liam SPQR
I emailed astronomy.ie to see what price they would give me on a Celestron Omni xlt 127 & they said €600 (normal retail €650) also I get a moon filter & moon map.

This is my first time to buy a telescope so what I am wondering is am I getting a good deal at that price which it seems I am & is this a good telescope to start with.

Any advice would be of great help as I was looking to buy it tomorrow?

Liam,

Is that just the telescope tube or does it include a mount also?

For comparison, here's Telescope Service in Germany (with whom many of us have dealt with):
www.teleskop-express.de/shop/index.php?m...89tf5jb7qqudd10t45uh

Celestron Omni xlt 127 telescope only - no mount: 438euro

Celestron Omni xlt 127 telescope on CG4 mount: 688euro

Michael.

I started out with the omni xlt 150 from astronomy Ireland. It was a great scope and good to learn the ropes on but i had a goal of getting to to astrophotography. I did start in imaging with the omni xlt 150 but only after i spent am extra 150euro on motor drives for the a CG4. Mount.

One ye ar later i bought the C8N on the CG5 GOTO mount from astronomy Ireland for around 800euro after alot of bargaining! I find the GOTO invaluable for finding the faint fuzzies. So what i am trying to say if you shop around and see 6inch or even a 8inch newt on a CG5 GOTO mount for around the same price, maybe 700euro mark, i think you will get a lot more bang for your buck and prob save money in the long run.
However, maybe there a reason you want to get a smaller compond telescope like the 127? If there is then maybe its the way to go for you right now.

Maybe someone else here will point out if i have it wrong. There is a lot more experienced people than me on here.

Good luck with your telescope hunting. All the best,

I was looking to get the 150 but looking into it I seen the 127 has a 50 magnification & the 150 has a 30, does this make a lot of differance or is the 150 the way to go?

The magnification you give is the magnification the free eyepiece that comes free with the telescope gives you. The real magnification you should concerned about is the highest useful magnification. Generally the bigger the appature the higher the highest useful magnification is. So i suspect the bigger150 is be higher. The 150 should be a good bit cheaper too.
