You learn something new every day, ok so the highest useful mag for the 127 is 300 & for the 150 its 354.

Is my best bet to go for the 150 & pick up better eye pieces next. Ive seen the 150 for €400.

Don't worry about the magnification-thats a function of the eyepiece as mentioned. Generally the bigger the scope the better. Personally, I wouldn't go under an 8" scope. There are a few on the secondhand market worth looking at. Dobs are good value also, you would pick up a 10" for that price which would blow away a 127mm scope.
Do shop around. There are some very good websites such as telescope service, telescope house, Ian king imaging to name a few.
Compare the shipping charges also.

Equivalent skywatcher 127mm mak plus goto mount for 449 plus shipping

10" dob for 500 plus shipping. This would be a great scope.

Good luck:-)

Hi liam. I Don't really know what the shipping would on a dub, prob same as any telescope but having never bought one from over seas i Don't know that either. If visual observing is what your are interested in then a dub is the way to go. In visual observing the saying goes... Appature rules! And with a dub, because its on a simple mount, all the money you spend goes on the telescope itself not the really the mount.

30-50 Euro. Send an email to Patrick at telescope service for a quote.
