I have a good few images of 104 now. The latest one is 33 15 sec exposures - they'll need some work. Polar alignment is getting me down though... I nailed it a couple of weeks back but seem to have lost the knack again. So no 45 sec plus images yet...

Enjoy!

Nice image Dave! A pic like that can really blow the mind. Quite a bit of detail there. It's a beautiful night out there, grabbed the binoculars and got a glimpse of the double cluster and Jupiter- well pleased with the binos- coul make out 4 of the moons quite easily.
About time I went to bed! Pity it wasn't like this on Friday)))

nice shot Dave. Just out of curiosity, what sort of magnitude are the fainter stars in that image?

Thanks for the comments lads. I actually have a much better that I'm currently trying to process. But I'm struggling with the techniques of manipulating FITS images. I'm also having a go at M101 (pinwheel galaxy) at the same time. As soon as I get them done, I'll post them up.

The faintest star I can ascertain using Aladin is about 17 (but not in the processed image above) from the new image. I guess that's not bad from light polluted Celbridge! The star at the top of the image posted below is 12.4, the one to the lower left is 10.8. The new image is much more detailed...

Glad the binos are working out for you Dave!

Cheers

Any chance you could forward your latest image to me? I'd love to have a shot at processing it. Since my laptop is out of action, I could do with the practice))))
