Ok, It's not a motor drive, but at 30 dollars, it ain't bad. :)

Keith..

Just to be clear, this is not a polar tracking device, thus you cant use it to take exposures without star trails.

Something like this perhaps;

Orion Min Eq Driven Mount - £129.99

Or;

Kenko Sky Memo - Single-Axis Tracking Mount £745 :shock:

Or here's what looks like a pre-built barn-door adapter for £30;

Everyone in Ireland buys Meade, and they all buy them from Lidl.

Anthony, I've done short time film SLR exposures, but as I get to know my way around with my dob., I thought I could also photo e.g. some of the Messier objects I observe, along with double stars etc.
If I wish to take a simple pic. using a zoom lens, I think I could run into trouble.

Deep sky sounds interesting, and I see what the other guys here come up with all the time.
I think that maybe the barn door mount would be a handy method after all, or that Orion mount you showed jhonan.
:lol:

Paul,

If your interest is indeed deep sky imaging, the short duration exposures I had in mind will not do at all.

The barn door tracker is quite good. I have read many reports where people have managed to image constellations, for example, using five and ten minute exposures. I do not know to what extent deep sky imaging and the associated smaller field of view can stand 5- or 10-min exposures but it would seem worth a try.

Anthony.
