Apparently, it just makes setting up the scope easier, not that it was rocket science in the first place.
My scope isnt a GPS, so at one stage I had my latitude wrong by a full degree and it made absolutely no differance to the tracking/goto.
The 2 star align is the critical point for that, in fact in the non GPS LX200, there is a 2 star alignment option where you dont have to enter your latitude ot logtitude at all as it can figure it out itself from the 2 star alignment !!!
They do say that the time needs to be fairly accurate, especially for satellite tracking, to within a second.
One night in january, I couldnt figure why only the planetary gotos weren't working, until I figured out I had the year wrong :oops:
As handy as GPS is, I think things like the mirror lock and micro-focuser on the newer LX200 are much more important. The older non GSP Lx200 hold their time and location even if you turn off the scope.
