Thanks for all the comments. I guess that it is true what they say "it is better to be born lucky than rich" :D

Given a bit of time and advice from Dave and Michael above I reprocessed the frames and balanced out the sky in the frames. I posted the results on our own club site www.kerryastronomyclub.com/rosetta.html A wide angle shot and a close-up animation.

Both animations are about 250k each so the page does take a minute or so to load on dial-up.

On the close up, to me the "trail" left in the 30 second exposure is not really in the direction of travel. This I cannot figure out??? Unless there was trajectory correcting "burn" in progress?

Any ideas?

By the looks of it Michael, I think you may be right about the trajectory correcting burn in progress at the time. Certainly looks like it anyway.
