S Coronae Borealis at record maximum was created by flt158
Hello everyone.
Over on www.cloudynights.com a special announcement has been made.
S Coronae Borealis is quite a bit brighter than its normal magnitude of +5.8.
But right now it's +5.4 - and it may become even brighter.
Of course once we get a clear night even low powered binoculars will see it.
The star's spectral class normally varies between M6 to M8.
But one observer reckons it is now M5.
S Crb has been known to fade to +14.1 - fainter than Pluto!
Its period is 360 days.
If we have clear skies on Monday I will seek it out.
It ought to have an orange or red colour.
Clear skies from Aubrey.

Super Aubrey. Pretty amazing that R, S and T CrB are all of special interest.

Yes Finbarr.
What an extraordinary small constellation Corona Borealis is!
Regarding its size it's the 73rd largest constellation in the entire sky - seriously small.
And yet it has plenty of interesting stars within its boundaries.
I have observed the only 2 carbon stars in it: R and V Crb.
I've yet to observe S or T Crb.
And there are plenty more M-class stars too.
Right now we have so much cloud according to Met Eireann satellite image.
But over in Limerick you're having plenty of sunshine, Finbarr.
Maybe you will observe S Crb before any of us on the east coast.
on www.aavso.org 2 observers are estimating its magnitude as +5.5,
Clear skies from Aubrey.

Thanks guys, I'll check this star out once the clouds clear, also I have been looking at TCrb for years, another important star.

That's right Aubrey, glorious day across Munster yesterday with temps touching 25C. I wasn't observing last night but will make an attempt tonight if clear.
